February 2019 Disney Trip Report Day One

We just returned from another trip to Disney World. Over the next seven days, I will be sharing our trip report day by day. You can find my planning post here. So let’s get started!

Our flight was set to leave Memphis around 2 pm. We arrived at the airport around noon and had lunch there. We bought Melody some “green chips” aka Sour Cream and Onion Pringles. Then we walked around the airport to see what all food locations were open. We ended up eating at Torn Basil next to our gate. The food was good, but the service was fairly slow. I will share more later.

We flew Southwest, but we were lucky enough to be in Group A anyhow. We were sure to bring lots of entertainment for Melody. This included her neck pillow, her pacifier, her Bitty Baby, iPad and some coloring packs. She didn’t sleep a wink on this flight, so we used it ALL, ha!

Here are a few snaps as we were starting to descend to Orlando.

After landing, we had to wait for the plane at our gate to leave. This took about 25 minutes. But once we made it to the gate, we stopped for restroom breaks then headed straight to Magical Express check in. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the ME desk. There was quite a line, but it moved really quick. We only waited in line about 5-10 minutes before they assigned us a bus. We waited on the bus about 15 minutes before it was completely loaded and we left the airport.

It took about 35 minutes to get to The Boardwalk. They stopped first at Caribbean Beach Resort. After us, they planned to stop at the Beach then the Yacht Club. I just assumed our room was ready. It was after 6 pm. I had received both text messages and an email before leaving Memphis letting me know my room wasn’t ready, but this trip I never received one saying it was ready. I checked in the app, and it listed our room number. I found this while riding the ME. So we decided to just try and see if it was truly ready. And it was. We went in, unpacked our backpacks, then headed down to the Boardwalk for dinner.

Dinner was really frustrating. One negative to The Boardwalk is the lack of decent quick service dining. Ideally we would use our dining plan, but the Boardwalk Bakery didn’t have anything we would eat. That left our options at the pizza window or pay out of pocket at Boardwalk To Go. There wasn’t a line at Boardwalk To Go, so we went there. Unfortunately they didn’t have much I could eat. I ended up ordering the mozzarella sticks and a side of french fries. And Brad ordered the burger and fries. We went to the Boardwalk Bakery to get our refillable mugs included in our dining plan.

We had to search in a lot of places for a table, but we finally found one. Melody and I sat at the table while Brad waited for the food. The food wasn’t great, but I do intend to write about those specifics later.

After dinner, we went to the Screen Door to get groceries. Our list was small. Milk, bread, and water. Well the main thing we needed was bread, and they were out. They called the Marketplace at the Beach Club, but they were out too.

I wanted to walk over to Epcot to get a Food and Wine passport. After getting that, we decided to just stop by the Marketplace and see what they had. They didn’t have anything to help us for the next day, but Brad did ask a castmember just to be sure. Well one was nice enough to go in the back and get us a few slices to help us make do until the next day when they said they would have more bread in. She didn’t even charge us. It was truly the nicest thing.

We skipped getting water and milk until the next day too. But Brad promised Melody we would go to the playground. Well on our way to the playground after getting the bread, I stopped at Boardwalk Joe’s for a Dole Whip smoothie. They continued walking. Well I ran into them because apparently the pool/playground closed at 8! She was heartbroken, but she was satisfied playing in the arcade for a few minutes before heading back up the room.

When we got back to the room, our luggage was there so we unpacked and called it a night! We had an early morning the next day.

Overall the day was good, but the food situation and playground closing at the hotel was beyond frustrating. But we didn’t let that ruin the day. We continued on and was sure to have as much fun as possible!
