Coloring with Melody

So I recently read in a parenting magazine that by age 15 months, a child should start attempting to color with crayons.  By two, they should be able to use crayons on their own.  Well it never truly crossed my mind to let my almost 15 month old use crayons.  Mainly because she still puts most things in her mouth that she picks up.  Well the other day I went to Target and decided to get some jumbo crayons and a cute coloring book.  I have regular crayons at home, but I know she will break those quickly, so I wanted some larger, more durable ones.  I sat her down at her picnic table [yep we still have this table in our house!], and I let her color.  It went much better than I expected, and the crayon only made it in her mouth twice!  Success!

Shadow Box Guestbook

One of the items I was in charge of for my cousin's couples shower in Memphis was the guestbook.  I contemplated many different options.  My original thought was to try and do some sort of guestbook that tied directly to the theme of the shower...Memphis, BBQ, Elvis, etc.  My best friend had a cute idea of getting everyone to sign an Elvis record.  My biggest concerns were a) how would they display it; b) how expensive it would potentially be; c) how easy would this be to do.  I decided in the end to go a safer route.  I saw various shadow box ideas, but decided to just come up with a version of my own.

Couples Shower Invites

One other "craft" I was in charge of for my cousin's couples shower in Memphis was the invitations.  My mother-in-law knows I love doing things like this, so it made sense.  At the time, our theme was Hometown Memphis.  Both the bride and groom are from Memphis but currently live in Ft. Lauderdale.  Since the shower was being held in Memphis, it made sense to make the them Memphis based.

Bathroom Remodel

Our house contains two bathrooms, a master bathroom and a guest bathroom.  Our guest bathroom did not necessarily have a theme.  We had a lot of red and gold throughout the bathroom.  The walls were beige, and we do not use a shower curtain because we have a shower door instead.  After having Melody, we decided we wanted to revamp the bathroom to make it kid-friendly.  We started looking into decorations and paint colors late February, and we began work at the end of March.  While this wasn't a full remodel, we did repaint and redecorate.

Foot Print Golf Course

For Father's Day, we decided to give Brad's dad some sort of foot print picture from Melody.  He loves to golf, so what better than a foot print that looks like a hole on the golf course.  Check out what we did below!

Birthday Guestbook

For Melody's First Birthday, I wanted a simple guestbook.  I contemplated whether a guestbook was even necessary, but I really wanted something to document everyone there.  I came up with many ideas, but they all were becoming either way to complicated OR I had no clue what I would do with the guestbook when the party was over.  So I opted for simplicity.

Donut Grow Up

My best friend's little girl, Lydia, turned one on May 13.  She decided to do a donut themed birthday party built around the phrase "Donut Grow Up".  How adorable is that?  She had a few ideas that she wanted me to do for her using my Silhouette Cameo machine.  All of these were her ideas, I just designed and cut them.

Happy Birthday Banner

When planning Melody's First Birthday Party, I almost forgot about having some sort of signage that actually said Happy Birthday!  It finally hit me that I probably needed something somewhere. When planning out decor, I noticed that the wall above the cake was going to be empty aside from the lanterns I planned to hang and some balloons.  So I decided to come up with something using my Silhouette Cameo.

Baby Painting

Painting with a baby isn't easy.  Honestly, I have been way to afraid to really attempt it.  We tried doing some hand molds at Christmas, and my child refused to open her hands.  I know if I put paint on them, she will just lick the paint off.  I noticed someone posted this method on Facebook not long ago.  With Mother's Day, I decided to make each of our mothers a piece of Melody art.  See the mess free method below!

Disney Monorail Countdown

On our February 2017 trip to Disney World, I wanted a cute countdown that wasn't too involved.  I had just returned from a trip to Disney World with my mom.  Therefore, the countdown would need to be fairly short.  Since Melody was so young, she really wouldn't be involved in this countdown.  So I came up with just an easy countdown that begin 12 days out from our trip.  I used the monorail as inspiration and Pinterest too!  See below.

Stroller Tag

On our recent trip to Disney World, we knew we would be using our stroller A LOT due to having an 8 (almost 9) month old!  If you have ever been to Disney, you may have noticed the sea of strollers.  You are required to park your strollers a lot.  You cannot take your strollers in most lines at the park or inside of a lot of the buildings.  And in that sea of strollers, they all can start to look alike.  We decided to make a stroller tag that would at least give it some distinction.

Melody's First Christmas Stocking

I wanted Melody's first Christmas stocking to be something special.  I wanted it to be a smaller stocking so that in future years we could include it on our Christmas tree.  That is where Brad's mom keeps his and his brother's first stockings.  I thought this was a neat idea.  I also wanted something with meaning.  Sure, I could go buy a stocking, and I did originally.  We have a "First Christmas" stocking that I found at Hobby Lobby that works with our decor, but I still wanted something more.  So I decided to crochet Melody a stocking.  I found a very, very useful video on youtube.  I did one stocking, but half way through it looked awful!  So I started over.  It took me about 3 days to finish it.  That does seem like a long time, but I have a 6 month old!  And I really only worked on it at night when she went to bed for an hour or so at a time.  I am even considering making full size ones next year for all 3 of us!  Check it out below.
